“Arise and shine for your light has come, his glory is upon you.”
This is an exciting time of the year when we patiently wait for the birth of Christ. As we wait, we reflect on the mission we have as God’s people on Earth. We reflect on our Baptismal Covenant. I believe in God the Father. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. We believe a virgin had a baby! With God, anything is possible.
What an interesting time to be a witness. We are witnesses of the miracles during the coronavirus pandemic. In spite of it, we are fortunate to be able to celebrate the themes of Advent: Two weeks ago, we celebrated HOPE. Hope for light at the end of the tunnel. Hope for a vaccine so we can return to a new normal. Last week’s theme was PEACE. We pray for peace during the transition of government in the United States. We pray for peace in our country and around the world. A few days ago, the theme was LOVE. The greatest commandment, to love God and love one another. And next Sunday, on the fourth Sunday of Advent, we will be celebrating JOY on the birth of Emmanuel.
God had called us to be here at this time to work through this pandemic together. May we return to our Baptismal Covenant. The Celebrant asks, “Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?” We respond, “ I will with God’s help.” The Celebrant continues with, “Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself” We respond, “I will with God’s help.” The Celebrant asks, “Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?” Our response again is, “I will with God’s help.” Our baptismal vows support the themes celebrated during Advent.
Christ is coming, let us make room in our hearts. Be well. Stay safe. Take care of one another. Wear your mask over your nose and mouth and God bless.
Let us pray.
O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom: Defend us, thy humble servants, in all assaults of our enemies; that we, surely trusting in thy defense, may not fear the power of any adversaries; through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
