Happy Birthday, Nuts and Bolts Blog! As we celebrate the first birthday of our blog we’d like to take this opportunity to invite you to share in the work of our resolutions at this year’s Ministry Fair. One of my concerns has been finding the most effective way to foster interest in these resolutions – hence, the birth of the blog! Then, we added a Facebook page to appeal to those of us engaged in social media. Now, we are ready to present some new ideas with you face-to-face!
Join us at Ministry Fair! The Resolution Review Committee is presenting a workshop during the first session called: Here Am I; Send Me: The Five Marks of Mission and the Work of the Church. During our time together we will look at what it means to live a missional experience because of our commitment to our Baptismal Covenant and the Five Marks of Mission. The workshop will include some small group brainstorming on how our congregations, deaneries and diocese can respond to God’s work in the world. I promise this workshop will surprise you and be a good use of your time!
While I am at it, let me also recommend another workshop that is a direct response to one of the resolutions from General Convention: How to Be Seen (Read and Heard, Too). Director of Communications for our household, Rick Schulte, will be moderating a round table discussion on how your congregation can reach out through its communication be it webpage, newsletter or social media platform. This workshop directly addresses the concerns of the following resolutions:
A025: Challenge Congregations to Develop Websites
Resolved, That the 77th General Convention of the Episcopal Church challenges every congregation in The Episcopal Church to have an effective, dynamic and current website by 2015.D069: Social Media Challenge
Resolved, That the 77th General Convention of The Episcopal Church challenge every diocese and congregation in The Episcopal Church to actively engage social media in its current and future manifestations.
Besides these two presentations, there are workshops that will appeal to everyone’s interests! So…join us on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at St Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lansing. You’ll be so glad you did!!
