Greetings, Friends!!
On these hot and humid summer days, there’s nothing more pleasant than sitting with a glass of something refreshing and a good read! I have a great pile of books just waiting for my attention but I also have pages of General Convention resolutions that I am finding engaging and provocative! Did you know that our Church is interested in climate change? Women’s health? Human trafficking? The statehood of Washington, D.C.? There’s an issue for everyone’s interest!!
But not all the members of our Household have access to computers so they’re unable to read the “Weekly Connection” and keep up with all the news of the Diocese including the “Nuts and Bolts Blog. “ This concern was raised at my last committee meeting and our last Diocesan Council meeting. There is an easy solution! By our Baptismal Covenant, we are all called to minister to one another – maybe there is someone in your congregation who finds computer work fascinating and has been looking for a way to help out. Call it a ministry of communication, if you will! Ask them to serve by making hard copies of the “Weekly Connection” and the “Nuts and Bolts Blog.” Post these in a prominent place or send them off to shut-ins with news of your congregation and the weekly bulletin. The point is to help everyone feel involved and part of the great work of our Church and Diocese.
Yes, I know that maybe the resolutions don’t seem quite as interesting as the novel sitting by your chair but once you get involved in making them work for our Household, I believe they can have a greater impact on our lives and the lives of our neighbors than many other good reads!!
Excellent idea, Judith! It’s very easy for those of us who are connected to the Internet to forget to share the wealth of information we have at our fingertips with those who are not connected. Thanks for the reminder!
